Some of the comments from our guest book
We would certainly love a return visit!
La Grange is a very spacious 4 bedroom gite located far enough from any busy roads, but close enough to make travelling around the area by car easy. There are lovely places to visit, only a short car ride away and also within easy drive to Bordeaux and Saintes for day visits. Pons is just a 5 minute drive and has supermarkets, bakeries and a couple of lovely bistros
The house is comfortable and well equipped with everything that you might need and the owners, Bob and Andy, who live next door are friendly and extremely helpful hosts. We were in the area for a wedding at a local chateau and Bob and Andy very kindly got us to the wedding in time and organised taxis for other visits we made for parties at the chateau.
We had beautiful home made fig jam and fresh figs on arrival. Bob and Andy also supplied us with a carafe of local red wine and very kindly took us for a visit to the producer so we could purchase more for us and the wedding party
The views of the surrounding vineyards and farms are beautiful and unspoilt, and the grounds and heated swimming pool generously proportioned and immaculately maintained.

An idyllic start to our French sojourn – and we’ll be coming back!
We stayed several nights in Les Tilleuls making good use of time with visits to Pons, the zoo at Palmyres, the Chateau d’Enigmes, and the town of Jonzac – but we most enjoyed staying at La Grange. We have stayed in numerous gîtes in France and also looked after an 11 bed for the summer a couple of years back and I must say that Bob and Andy present a very high standard for future comparisons. Our stay with them was so enjoyable – our boys loved the pool of course and the large garden to explore with its swings, while my wife and I enjoyed chatting to our hosts (whose knowledge of the local area is excellent) and just relaxing on the patio for breakfast or watching the stars come out at night.
It was a seriously idyllic way to begin our longer stay in France (3 months in the south) – and the quality of the gîte was superb: it easily accommodated the four of us (with beds to spare!) and the large dining table would easily look after two families. We’re returning to La Grange in December – as we are very tempted to move to France and we loved the area.

Without question Les Tilleuls encapsulates everything beautiful about rural France.
We stayed from 1 September 2019 to 11 September 2019 (our children joined us for part of the holiday too). It is situated adjacent to the wonderful French fields and vineyards, and is just so peaceful. The gardens are very spacious and a delight to spend time in. We made lots of use of the pool, barbecue, games, and cycles (that were kindly provided to us). The location is very good for cycling and we had some lovely rides into even more rural areas. The weather was pleasant, not too hot at the time of year we went.
In terms of the accommodation itself this is super comfortable, spacious and well equipped and spotlessly clean. We stopped in the larger part – La Grange that sleeps up to 8 people. There’s nothing really that is lacking in terms of home comforts with a dishwasher, microwave, washer and towels that are provided.
The hosts Bob and Andy are wonderful lovely people. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they are very kind and welcoming. They took us to two vineyards (one in northern Bordeaux) about a 30 minute drive away, and other just over 5 minutes away in the car. Both are highly recommended.
We visited the market at Saintes, Royan and Pons – all of which we would recommend without question. La Rochelle airport is about an hour away by car. The supermarket at Pons – LeClerc (15 minute drive) is well stocked, and the wine selection there is great, and at a good price. Two bakeries – about 10 minutes drive away by car are recommended. Bob and Andy can provide the details.
If you need a holiday where the only real main noise you here is the wonderful sounds of the church bells in the background, this is definitely for you. Will we return again at some point? Without question – just need to retire from work so we can spend more time there!

Beautiful Escape in the French Countryside!!!
I truly cannot speak highly enough of our stay with Bob and Andy at Les Tilleuls! Everything from the location, to the gite – and especially our hosts – was absolutely wonderful and beyond what we could have expected! We stayed a week in the large gite at Les Tilleuls in Echebrune. The little country town is everything you want from the French countryside: Nestled right on a beautiful vineyard, there are an abundance of tiny little townships along the country roads that guide you through the Cognac region, each of them producing the grapes or Eau de Vie that makes the signature drink for which the region is designated.
You can also find a local favorite aperitif – Pineau – which is fresh juice from the grapes fortified with Cognac, and it is delicious! The chateau is about 25 minutes drive from the city of Cognac itself, where you can tour many different Cognac houses and take in the beautiful architecture. The historic town of Pons is only a 10-15 minute drive, where you can dine out, or head into the city of Saintes on Sunday for their incredible street market; flush with local artisan meats, cheeses, olives, pastries – essentially everything you could want. There is also a proper supermarket in Saintes, and another just across the river in Cognac (intermarche).
You will definitely want to stay in and cook too! The kitchen is VERY well equipped for cooking, and I even made a cheesecake out of local fresh Chevre! There is a 4-burner gas stove, with an oven and 2 good-size fridges, plus a dishwasher! There are plenty of cups, plates, and various utensils, including cookware, mixing bowls and pitchers, etc. Bob and Andy also very sweetly greeted us with a welcome basket of coffee, butter, preserves, biscuits and baguette! If you are a coffee drinker, fear not. There is a Bosch coffee pod system, a drip coffee machine, and a classic French press, so you really have your choice.
Our gite had 4 very comfortable bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms complete with a shower in one and a full tub in the other. The real winner, though, was the living area, where you could enjoy a morning cup while gazing through the floor to ceiling windows that look out over the beautiful garden (lovingly manicured by Bob and Andy), and the lovely vineyard beyond. Bob and Andy were so gracious and generous, attending to our every need, and even scheduled a private wine tour for us at Chateau des Tourtes! They also happen to be two of the most genuinely kind people, and we cannot recommend them enough!

Great stay at Les Tilleuls
We had a great stay at Les Tilleuls, which is a beautiful stone built house on the edge of the little village of Echebrune – a gloriously tranquil spot. There are views of the grand Romanesque church (a particular feature of all the villages in this part of the Charente) from the lovely gardens and deck around the heated pool. Le Chai is a charming, spacious and well equipped gite. The old cognac distillery distillery apparatus is a distinctive feature of the large and comfortable sitting room (where the tv has a range of channels in all languages, including BBC for English visitors).
The sunny terrace catches the evening sun going down over the fields and vineyards and is a perfect place for an aperitif and al fresco dining. The very attractive town of Pons, with its hill top castle and bars and restaurants is 10 minutes drive, has a large Leclerc supermarket and petrol station. The large town of Cognac, where there is a lot to see and do, and the lovely coast of the Gironde Estuary, are c20 minutes drive away. Saintes, St Jean d’Angely, La Rochelle, and even Bordeaux, are all easily accessible for day trips. A perfect place for an interesting and relaxing holiday. Bob & Andy are great hosts.

We have just spent a few days at Les Tilleuls. Having holidayed in France for many years this is without doubt our favourite venue. The hosts could not have been more helpful. The gite and the gardens are stunning and a tribute to Bob and Andy’s hard work. Very quiet and peaceful with wonderful views. However, so much to do and visit and see within a short drive and the coast nearby is fantastic. Looking forward to our next visit.

Excellent stay, ideal for family and friends alike.
We stayed here with a group of friends for a long weekend. We rented both apartments which were both beautifully appointed. They are located in a typical, quiet French village; a 10 minute drive from the nearest town of Pons, a little further to Cognac, just an hour away from Bordeaux and just over an hour from La Rochelle, ideal for interesting days out exploring the beautiful local area. Bob and Andy were excellent hosts and gave us lots of tips to help discover the best bits of the area in the limited amount of time we had.
The apartments themselves were very well equipped; dishwashers, washing machines, ample cutlery, china, glassware etc. They were spotlessly clean and had quality bed linen and furnishings, the garden was large and beautifully tended, opening out onto the local vineyards and rolling French countryside. The pool was large and very well maintained; Bob informed us that over the winter they are having heating installed so the water temperature will be much warmer for those spring and autumn days. Would we stay here again? Most certainly, we’re already booked in for October next year ready to explore more of the surrounding area and try more of the local restaurants.

Family friendly gite in a superb location
We had the pleasure of staying at Les Tilleuls in late June (6 adults, 3 small children). From the pre arrival emails and right throughout our stay, Bob and Andy could not have been better hosts. The house is spacious, comfortable and clean with all the amenities of you could wish for (washing machine, dishwasher) plus some thoughtful touches like a delicious welcome basket. Les Tilleuls is also well equipped for holidaying with small children and we appreciated the cot, cot bed and high chair.
The grounds are simply stunning with well thought out plantings to create private spaces and enhance the beautiful rural views. Much of our time was spent around the large pool which is equipped with loungers and pool toys. The pool alarm was also a welcome safety feature. We were in the area for a number of family events so unfortunately did not have much time to explore the Charante region. We did, however, manage to squeeze in a quick trip to a local vineyard to purchase some very drinkable table wine and with a little more time Bob and Andy would have been able to help us organise longer trips to tour and enjoy more of the local delights. One of the highlights of our stay was a very enjoyable evening meal on our terrace cooked by Andy and served by Bob. The food and wine were delicious and thoughtfully tailored to our dietary needs. We hope to be back again soon.

Peaceful, idyllic, scenic, fun, comfortable – just perfect!
Just got back from spending an incredible 2 weeks in La Grange. Bags of space for the 8 of us (4 children & 4 adults), so comfortable, everything you could think of and lots of gorgeous features. The gardens and pool splendid, I could spend all day looking at the view. Bob & Andy are fantastic; warm, welcoming and great fun to be around. Location wise it’s a 15 minute drive to Pons, a lovely small town with your big supermarket. There is a fab cafe/restaurant by a river which does great food, has a play park, pedalos, crazy golf and a pony ride. There is a fantastic beach at St George’s De Didonne, free parking, very safe, so much space and lots of water sports. We headed to Fouras, where you can see Fort Bouyard.
You can do boat trips around it for 45 Euros. The water park at Les Antilles de Jonzac was great fun and a good way to spend a few hours, or more. 30 Euros for a family ticket! Wouldn’t get that in the UK. Whilst we enjoyed taking in the sights of La Rochelle, and other places, we all said that the most fun we had was at the gite. Mucking around in the pool, relaxing in the garden watching the kids play (or fight over whose turn it was to go on the swings), and soaking up the sun. Or nightly BBQ’s, sitting outside to eat, drink and be slightly merry and then watching the incredible sunsets. Les Tilleuls is an incredible place to stay and we hope to return to enjoy the magic of it again.

Wonderful Place and Amazing Hosts
We stayed for a little less than a week at this wonderful gite and wished we didn’t have to leave. La Grange is spacious with a great open floor plan that is perfect for cooking and enjoying many many bottles of the great wine from the region. The bedrooms are comfortable with clean bathrooms. The place is super cute. There is so much to do in the area. Local markets, vineyards, Cognac distilleries, old towns all with in short drives. The people of the area are beyond lovely- so friendly and welcoming trust me you will not want to leave.
The owners Bob and Andrew are worth the trip alone. Not only were they great hosts and very welcoming but they helped set up a tour of a local wine maker and had countless great suggestions for where to go and how to get there. On top of that they both are incredibly sweet and very very interesting people and all of us loved spending time with then just chatting and getting to know them. Bottom line is I can’t recommend this place enough. If you are thinking of going you should. The grounds are lovely. We were there too early to use the pool but I bet it is great right about now.

Excellent stay in a lovely part of France
We had a really lovely time at Les Tilleuls with Bob and Andy who were marvellous and knowledgable hosts. Their lovely home is set in a large garden with a gorgeous heated pool complete with their two friendly dogs. Les Tilleuls is located in small rural village in the heart of vineyards for the brandy and pineau makers of the area and of course in Cognac, only a 20 minute drive away. The local ancient towns of Pons, Jonzac and Saintes are well worth visiting and the coast is only a half hour drive away. The gite is very comfortable, spacious and well equipped and we would have loved to have stayed longer and hope to enjoy many future trips to Less Tilleuls. Thank you Bob and Andy!

A beautiful place to relax and recharge
We’ve just returned from our second visit to Bob and Andy’s lovely gite, and I am currently planning our visit for next year. Bob and Andy are kind and helpful, and keep the property, pool and grounds in excellent condition. The pool area is beautiful with plenty of sun loungers to go round. The recent addition of the pool heating has been a very welcome one! The gites are both well equipped, and provide all you need for a comfortable stay. Any queries, Bob and Andy are always around to advise. The garden provides a lovely safe area for children to play, and the large tree provides welcome shade during the middle of the day.
We didn’t really leave the gite that much this time, apart from a trip to Cognac for crepes, and our frequent supermarket runs into Pons. Ask Bob and Andy for details about how to find Sebastian the local wine maker – he’s fab! All in all, highly recommend to all those families in search of a safe, calm holiday which allows everyone to relax. We’re heading back next year!

Fab stay in the barmy French countryside
We had a really wonderful stay at less Tileuls.. For a large family group it has everything: a well equipped comfortable house, an amazing pool, lots of space for the kids to run around and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the views. We were thrilled to discover all of the games and toys available and even a box of beach toys we could borrow. The hosts were very accommodating and attentive if we had any queries. Overall we can’t wait to come back!

Warm welcome in the Cognac
We stayed for a long weekend in May in the 4 bedroom apartment with two teenagers and a dog. The property is set in beautiful countryside and was spacious, clean and comfortable and very well equipped. The gardens were beautiful (the pictures on line don’t do it justice). The dog loved the space. Best holiday he’s had – helped by the owners who couldn’t have been more welcoming! One of the nicest properties we’ve been to with HomeAway.
